Alliance Quimica | Fortaleza

The first chlor-alkali plant installed onsite a water treatment facility in the world

Our plant in Fortaleza, under the name of Alliance Química, has been operating since 2014 onsite CAGECE’s (State of Ceara Water and Sewage Company) Gavião water treatment facility.

The plant has been providing uninterrupted disinfection services since inception and currently delivers just over five metric tons of chlorine per day as highly chlorinated water. The plant also produces caustic soda and sodium hypochlorite as byproducts of the production which are sold into the local market. The sodium hypochlorite serves as the emergency reserve of chlorine in case the production stops for any reason. The plant at any time has between 5-7 days of chlorine stored as sodium hypochlorite and an additional 15 days of raw materials such as salt.

The plant in Fortaleza was a first of its kind and only full chlor-alkali plant installed onsite a water treatment facility in the world.

Nossa planta em Fortaleza é exemplo de nosso compromisso e confiabilidade: estamos operando desde 2014.

Chlorum Solutions Fortaleza plant

Positive Impact

Investment in the Region
Over US$60 million have been invested in three new industrial plants in the region that were directly or indirectly related to Chlorum’s plant providing high quality jobs and investments to the region.

No Additional Investment by the Water Company
Chlorum made 100% of the required investment, allowing for the water company to direct its funds toward its core business of treating and delivering potable water to the residents of Fortaleza.

Reduced risk of chlorine gas                                                                                                   By producing onsite, the plant eliminated the risk of transporting, storing and handling chlorine to the water company, its employees and cities in which the chlorine had to be transported through.

Environmentally Safe
The membrane technology used by the plant allows for a production that is free of toxic effluents and substituted chlorine that was previously produced from mercury technology production..

Carbon Impact
We estimate an annual net reduction of CO2e emissions of 2,600 tons per year considering the net reduction of transportation for both raw materials and final products. In addition to reduction of emissions from transportation, the plant is run fully on renewable energy sources.
